Questions and Answers

What Ethernet port types and speeds are supported?

The Webgate 001 Model supports Fast Ethernet (10/100 Base-T). All other Webgate models support Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Base-T)

Does the appliance route or switch traffic?

The Mi5 Webgate appliance functions as a Transparent Bridge in Inline mode. It does not route traffic. Other network devices are unaware of its existence in the network. In Port/Span Tap mode the appliance uses the Management port for communication and the Monitor port to listen to traffic.

Where is the best location to install a Mi5 Appliance in a network?

The Mi5 Webgate appliance's ideal location for installation is as close to the enterprise network boundary, where Internet access is located. Place the Mi5 Webgate appliance directly inside your network Firewall. If you are using Webgate in conjunction with existing proxies, place Webgate on the client side of the proxy.

What network deployment modes are available?

The Mi5 Webgate appliance can function in either in Tap/Span or Inline mode. In addition, Webgates can connect to existing proxies or firewalls via ICAP or UFP. Click here for more details on network deployment options.
