How is an Mi5 Webgate appliance managed?

The Mi5 Webgate appliance is managed through a secure web interface. All management options are accessible utilizing your traditional web browser, i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Netscape Navigator. For multi-Webgate deployments, Mi5 also offers two central management appliances, the CI-10 and CI-100.

Can I configure the Mi5 Webgate appliance from a UNIX or Mac based Operating System?

Yes, the Mi5 Webgate appliance can be configured using a web browser on most operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

If an administrator forgets their password, is there a password recovery mechanism?

Yes, an administrator can access the password recovery feature through the main login screen of the Mi5 Webgate appliance.

What is the difference between the Management, Monitoring, WAN, and LAN ports on the appliance?

The Mi5 Webgate ports function in the following manner:

  • Management Port - for out-of-band management of appliance
  • Monitoring Port - for monitoring traffic sent from a Tap/Span port
  • WAN port - for inline traffic monitoring and blocking. This port is typically connected to a Router, Firewall, or other network gateways
  • LAN port - for inline traffic monitoring and blocking. This port is connected to the internal network switch or other device.

Can a Webgate's configuration be changed via the serial interface?

Yes, an administrator can access a menu driven configuration screen via the serial interface. Please use a Terminal Emulation application, such as HyperTerminal, and the console cable provided with the appliance to access the menu system.
