Mi5 Networks Announces First Enterprise Grade Spyware Risk Assessment Program

The fastest, easiest way to measure the “hidden” spyware risk in an organization

Sunnyvale, Ca- March 8, 2006 – Mi5 Networks, a provider of enterprise-class anti-spyware gateway products, today rolled out a comprehensive Spyware Risk Assessment program for the enterprise. The Mi5 Spyware Risk Assessment provides the simplest way to audit corporate networks for spyware infections. In this free, two week engagement, a Mi5 Enterprise Spygate appliance is placed off a port span or tap, and pinpoints spyware infections not being addressed by current security programs. Mi5 provides all the hardware, software and support needed during the assessment. No longer is it necessary to spend valuable IT Security resources on network reconfigurations or desktop agent deployments to discover what’s going on in your network.

The Mi5 Spyware Risk Assessment provides actionable reports, including information on what machines are already infected with spyware, where employees are getting infected, and what the potential cost of spyware is to your organization. Mi5 reports rank spyware infections by severity level – Critical for security risks, Major for productivity risks, and Minor for privacy risks. Infected machines are identified by the hostname or machine name – not just IP address – and additional information is given about each piece of spyware to help with cleanup. Other reports show where employees are getting infected – information that can be used to shape corporate policy and in employee education materials.

"The toughest challenge enterprises have with spyware is knowing what they’re missing,” said Doug Camplejohn, CEO of Mi5 Networks. "Although the Help Desk typically has visibility on adware that clogs systems and is visible to the employee, companies have little visibility to keyloggers, RATs, trojans, and other malicious forms of spyware - where the real security risk lies. After installing Mi5’s appliance, our customers always find previously unknown spyware infections, regardless of what desktop or gateway protections they already had in place." "Spyware Risk Assessments are good for business. Corporations need to implement best practices that allow them to continually assess their risk, accurately report that risk to key business stakeholders and protect their intellectual property and competitive advantage," said Larry Ponemon, principal of the Ponemon Institute, a leading security consulting practice. "Mi5 makes it easier for corporations to understand their risk, communicate that risk clearly, and help address spyware risk management issues."
